New tool for determining wait times at Embassies / Consulates
published 26 August 2004

The Department of State has introduced a link on its website to determine processing times for nonimmigrant visas at U.S. Embassies and Consulates around the world.  Through this link, one can determine approximately how many days it takes to obtain an interview appointment.  One can also find out how many days it takes the Embassy or Consulate to issue the visa after the interview assuming that there are no security issues.  This is information which had not been previously provided on the websites of the U.S. Embassies or Consulates.

Please note that these processing times are dynamic and are in flux. For example, if an individual views the link and finds out that the Embassy or Consulate in his/her home country is scheduling interviews in 30 days, one cannot assume that when s/he returns to the home country over the December holidays, the lag time for an interview will continue to be 30 days. It is also important to note that times for either scheduling interviews and/or visa issuance can be longer if the individual is subject to additional security checks or if the Consul determines that the employee's work involves a technology listed on the Technology Alert List.

The link is:  http://travel.state.gov/visa/tempvisitors_wait.php. The link has been added to our website under processing times.
