Updated version of Form I-9

USCIS has made changes to Form I-9, which is used to verify the identity and work eligibility of every new employee hired after November 6, 1986. Starting January 22, 2017, employers must only use the updated version of Form I-9 dated 11/14/2016, as prior versions of the form are no longer valid for use. Reverification of expiring employment authorization for existing employees must also be completed using this updated version. Employers who fail to use the updated version on or after January 22, 2017 may be subject to penalties. Despite the update to Form I-9, employers should continue to follow existing storage and retention rules for all of their previously completed Form I-9 (rules found here).
