The T nonimmigrant classification is reserved for victims of
trafficking in persons. This visa was created as a result of the
October 2000 law entitled "Victims of Trafficking & Violence
Protection Act of 2000" with the objective of halting illegal
trafficking of persons across international borders.
A maximum of 5,000 T visas are authorized per year. To qualify,
a person must demonstrate that s/he is under the age of 15, is
or has been a victim of a severe form of trafficking in persons,
is physically present in the U.S., by way of such trafficking
and would suffer extreme hardship involving unusual or severe
harm upon removal. USCIS has not published regulations for the T visa.
